Triathlon Strength and Conditioning Training

Strength training is about more than lifting weights- it covers your entire physical development and what is needed to improve your physical performance. This can range from plyometrics to speed and agility training to core stability work and endurance training.

Many triathletes sacrifice strength training for additional swimming, cycling or running . However, a well-executed strength-training program can allow you to cut up to 25% from your swim, bike and run and help you prevent injuries.

Strength training is important for triathletes for many reasons:

  1. It helps to prevent injuries.
  2. It leads to an improved performance
  3. It will help you maintain good posture

Here are a few examples of the types of exercises we would include in a strength and conditioning programme:

  • Squats
  • Walking Lunges
  • Body weight exercises
  • Box jumps
  • Deadlifts
  • Kettlebell swings
  • Prowler
  • Bent over rows
  • Core stabilizing moves
